Special Project: Regional Food Hub
Coastal Foodshed in partnership with SEMAP and the Southcoast Food Policy Council (of the Marion Institute) has hired a consultant to assist with a conducting feasibility study of a regional food hub. Our goal is to bring together a group of stakeholders who are interested in strengthening our regions food system. Food Hubs allow small/mid-sized businesses like farmers to grow more food and expand their operations, while focusing less on distribution and marketing.
If you are interested in this exciting initiative, please reach out to us! We are looking for passionate community members and partner organizations who are willing to take this project on with us and help us spread the word!
In the summer of 2018, we launched a new program, the Mobile Farm Stand. These farm stands are extensions of our farmers markets, which will provide fresh, local fruits and vegetables to neighborhoods where residents can’t easily access one of our three farmers markets and other local healthy products. We source all of the produce from Southcoast area farmers and educate our community on the importance of supporting local, eating seasonally, and cooking healthy delicious food!
