Farm to Institution
Coastal Foodshed is working to build a stronger connection between local farms and the institutions that feed our community every day. Through the Farm to Institution Program, we source and deliver locally grown produce, dairy, and other farm products from our network of farm partners directly to schools, institutions, and restaurants across the Southcoast.
For local farms, access to larger wholesale markets creates a reliable, predictable market channel with larger consistent volume. And for students, patients, and restaurant customers, it means fresh, locally grown food from farms that are part of the same Southcoast community. Through our Farm to School Program, we have been selling local food to Bristol County Agricultural High School, Dartmouth Public Schools, and New Bedford Public Schools, delivering locally grown apples, pears, tomatoes, greens, and more.
We can source and aggregate local food for your cafeteria and we can connect you with local farms so you can source directly from them as well. We can also work with school partners to identify ways you can incorporate local food into your menus in creative ways. We are actively building this program and working to partner with additional schools throughout the Southcoast. If you would like to learn more about serving local food in your cafeteria, please reach out to us at localfood@coastalfoodshed.org.
When schools and institutions shift just a portion of their sourcing and procurement to local foods, it makes an immense difference to farm partners and the local food economy.
