Coastal Foodshed is a non-profit local food hub rooted in the Southcoast of Massachusetts. We connect dozens of local farm partners with customers and communities across the region who want access to fresh, locally grown food – supporting the local farm economy, preserving farmland, and increasing access to fresh fruits and vegetables for our underserved neighbors. Your donation helps make that possible.

Coastal Foodshed provides us with the services and support that allow us to spend more time farming. We're able to focus on growing food, while Coastal Foodshed focuses on moving, marketing, and selling our food throughout the Southcoast, allowing us to spend our time growing our operations.

Your donation goes to work right away.

We are a small, hands-on team. Every dollar you give is invested directly into the time, supplies, and equipment needed to transport, store, distribute, and sell local food throughout the Southcoast year-round.

You support local farmers.

Coastal Foodshed purchases local food from our farm partners at fair market rates and handles the logistics of getting it to customers, providing farmers with a steady source of income and access to markets they otherwise cannot easily reach.

You preserve local farmland.

Our Southcoast farmers face a number of challenges, including high land and lease costs, pressure from developers, and limited access to capital. When you donate to Coastal Foodshed, you are supporting the sustainability and growth of these farms, and ultimately preserving local farmland across the region for future generations.

You make local food accessible to everyone.

As the only year-round HIP-eligible vendor serving New Bedford, Coastal Foodshed plays a critical role in connecting low-income and food insecure families with fresh fruits and vegetables. All of our markets accept SNAP and HIP benefits, and our HIP Delivery Program brings bags of fresh, local produce directly to community distribution sites throughout the Southcoast in partnership with 40+ community organizations. Local food is not a luxury. It belongs on every table.

One of our New Bedford SNAP customers says “This program has provided me with healthy produce I would not have been able to purchase at the grocery store. It has also introduced me to some things I’ve never tried before and now really enjoy and do purchase it helps me supplement my ability to sustain myself and not be a burden on my family.”

The impact is real.

Since opening in 2017, Coastal Foodshed has directly and indirectly sold and distributed more than $4 million worth of local foods into the community, just over $1 million of which was purchased by customers using SNAP and HIP and just over $1 million of which was donated to local food pantries.
