Meet Our Team
Kim and Stephanie are both Registered Dietitians, and have a combined 16 years working in food access in a number of settings. Most recently, through Mass in Motion New Bedford, Stephanie and Kim played key roles in assuming management of the New Bedford Farmers Market, making it SNAP-accessible, increasing the number and diversity of vendors, and re-branding the market to ultimately double sales within the first year. They have continued to increase food access within New Bedford by creating a subsidized Farm Share Program and setting up the city's first Mobile Farm Stand. Kim has also been a board member for SEMAP since 2014, and Stephanie has been the Coordinator of the Southeastern Mass Food Security Network since 2014.
Dawn spent many years of her childhood on her great-grandfathers potato farm in MA where she learned about the importance of sustainable eating and healthy living. Dawn earned her B.S. in Public Health with a concentration in Nutrition from Bridgewater State University in May 2016. To further her education in Nutrition, Dawn will be attending Framingham State University in the Fall of 2018 to earn her Master’s in Dietetics. Dawn joined the Mass in Motion team in June 2015 as an intern for the New Bedford Farmers Market. She is now the Market Manager for the New Bedford Farmers Markets.
Maria was born and raised on the small island of Maio, Cabo Verde. Maria grew up knowing the importance of our environment and our ability to grow and produce our own food. Seeing as Cabo Verde is a country that has experienced famine and drought before, its people celebrate rainy season and pray through every crop season. After moving to New Bedford, Massachusetts with her daughter, Maria started a career in the food industry as a quality control inspector. Throughout her career she grew to understand the importance of only putting the best quality foods into our bodies and on your families table. Today, Maria is an assistant at the New Bedford Farmers Market, operated by Coastal Foodshed, putting her friendly personality and years of experience in the food industry to work.
